Sweet Cherries in Syrup
My friend has a CSA (Ruby Hill Farms) and I’m lucky to be one of her first season customers. She’s working with a farm in Eastern Washington to get fruits amongst her amazing produce. This week there was Rainer and Bing Cherries!
I’ve been enjoy light cocktails this summer and thought I’d try canning my own cherries and syrup. So I got creative and added some liquid smoke to make it extra yummy.
Here’s the recipe I made. It’s sweet and perfect to add to your lemonade or cocktail if you partake.

1 C Honey
1C Filtered Water
1 C Grenadine Syrup
1/2 tsp Liquid Smoke
2 TB Fresh Lemon Juice
3# Pitted and Destemmed Cherries
Heat everything except cherries to a low rolling boil. Reduce down to a syrup of your choosing. I keep mine a little less thick about 10 minutes. Add Cherries and stir to heat through slightly.
Use a slotted spoon and fill jars with cherries, then cover with syrup. Will keep in fridge for about a month. You can also can them if you want to keep at room temp on a shelf.
I use about 1/4 cup syrup with 1/4 cup lemon juice and 1 cup sparkling water for a refreshing drink. Not bad with vodka if its your pleasure.
